Restoring a tooth: Staining and Glazing

June 13, 2022

Glazed zirconia will have significant loss to the glazed layer when enduring the day-to-day wear in the human mouth. Physiologically, when using staining & glazing kit, the fluxes in the ceramic dissolve and leave the surface similar to very abrasive sand paper causing significant wear to human enamel.  As the surfaces erode, the ceramic crystal edges break and have an appearance of a file that chisels the opposing teeth. On the other hand, polished zirconia does not etch nor does the surface fracture and take on the appearance and characteristics of a file.

Avoid using too much paste one time, adopting principle of “take less one time, more times.” When dealing with special effect, no need to add glaze liquid. Keep original consistency to have better plasticity. For restoration that needs no staining , apply glaze directly. After the restoration is finished, please check carefully to avoid missing of coloring. After sintering, if places that are not stained or with no good color are found, sinter again after re-staining.
